Horned frogs are among the most popular pet frogs globally, and their visibility in Taiwan has been steadily increasing over the years. This is thanks to the dedication of enthusiasts who care for and promote these frogs, sharing photos and updates daily.
However, as more people take up the hobby, new and previously uncommon issues have started to emerge.
It's becoming more common to see posts in horned frog groups about finding a lost frog, with people looking for the owner. However, given the nature of horned frogs, if they escape, they are usually found hiding in dark corners indoors and are unlikely to venture outside.
Of course, it’s likely that the frog was taken outside and then escaped, as it's hard to believe someone would willingly discard such an interesting creature!
Still, it’s important to remember that horned frogs are an exotic species and not native to Taiwan. Most are bred as pets.
If you have a horned frog that you no longer wish to keep, please don’t abandon it outside. Instead, consider posting in any relevant groups or forums—many people who are interested in keeping frogs would be happy to adopt.
"Adopt, don't shop" and "Love them, don't abandon them" are familiar slogans that reflect the sentiments of all animal lovers.
Abandoning pets is not only irresponsible to the environment but also to the animals themselves.
While there may be circumstances that prevent continued care, we believe that there are many ways to find kind-hearted individuals willing to provide a loving home for these animals.
Therefore, we hope that whether adopting or purchasing animals in the future, everyone will carefully evaluate and consider their commitment before bringing these little creatures into their lives.
